Submission Terms
Version 2026-10-23 · Applies to finds submitted on or after October 23, 2026
The short version
- You must be 18 or older to submit.
- You keep ownership of your photo (and your art, if you drew it). You give us permission to use it; you don't hand it over.
- That permission covers this website and a PortaPottyPics book. If you drew the art yourself, it also covers merch like shirts and stickers.
- Submissions are free and unpaid. No fees, no royalties. You get credit by name or handle, or you can stay anonymous.
- We review everything and may not post every submission.
The rest of this page spells that out properly. If anything here and the short version disagree, the full terms below are what count.
1. Who can submit
You must be at least 18 years old to submit a find. By submitting, you confirm that you are.
2. What you're sending us
A "submission" is the photo you upload plus anything you type in with it: the caption, location, name or handle, and email address if you give one. When you submit, you tell us one of two things about the artwork in the photo:
"I drew this"
You made the artwork yourself, as well as taking the photo.
"I found this"
Someone else made the artwork. You found it and took the photo.
3. You keep ownership
Submitting doesn't transfer ownership of anything. Your photo stays yours, and if you drew the art, the art stays yours too. You're free to post it anywhere else you like.
4. The permission you give us
When you submit, you give PortaPottyPics a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use your submission as described below. In plain terms:
- Non-exclusive: you can still let anyone else use it too.
- Perpetual and worldwide: the permission doesn't expire and isn't limited to one country, so a book that's already printed can keep being sold.
- Royalty-free: we don't pay for this use (see section 6).
The license lets us display, copy, publish, and distribute the submission; make small edits like cropping, resizing, color correction, or blurring something out; and share it on our social media to promote the site, book, or shop. It also lets the printers and manufacturers we hire make our products, but only to the extent they need to do that work. What the license covers depends on what you told us:
If you drew it
The website, PortaPottyPics books (print and digital), and PortaPottyPics merchandise such as shirts, stickers, prints, and mugs.
If you found it
Your photo on the website and in PortaPottyPics books (print and digital). Not merchandise. We'd only put found art on merch if the original artist comes forward and agrees to it in writing.
5. What you promise
- You took the photo yourself, or you have the photographer's permission to submit it.
- If you chose "I drew this," you really did make the artwork.
- The photo doesn't show anyone's face, name, phone number, or other personal details without their permission.
- The submission isn't illegal, and it doesn't include sexual content involving anyone under 18.
If any of these turn out not to be true, we may remove the submission and leave it out of anything we make.
6. Free and unpaid
Submitting is free, and submissions are unpaid. You won't be charged anything, and you won't receive payment, royalties, or a share of sales for your submission, including from books or merchandise. You also won't receive free books, merchandise, or other products.
What we do offer is credit: we'll credit you by the name or handle you give us, wherever it's practical (on the website, and in the book's credits or next to the piece). Leave the name blank to stay anonymous.
7. Our choice to post (or not)
Every submission is reviewed before it goes up. We may decide not to post a submission, crop or blur part of it, or take it down later, for any reason. Submitting doesn't guarantee your find will appear anywhere.
8. Asking us to take it down
You can ask us to remove your submission from the website at any time, and we'll take it down. We'll also leave it out of any future book editions or products. We can't recall books or merchandise that were already made before you asked.
9. Is this your art?
If you're the artist behind a find someone else submitted, we'd love to hear from you. You can ask us to credit you by name, or ask us to take it down. Email writedownrobinson@gmail.com with a link to the post and a few words about how you made it.
10. Your email address
If you give us an email address, we'll only use it to contact you about your submission (for example, to confirm how you'd like to be credited, or if a question comes up about it). We won't show it publicly, sell it, or add you to a mailing list.
11. If these terms change
If we update these terms, we'll post the new version here with a new date. The terms you agreed to when you submitted are the ones that apply to that submission. New terms only apply to finds submitted after they're posted.
